INFORMATION
In addition to the details published in this section, you can download detailed travel guidelines for each of our trips by clicking on the briefing tab provided in the description of each trip. There you can find useful information about visas, vaccinations, food, money, weather and more.
AVAILABILITY
Our groups are small and consist of up to 18 people. To check if there are places available for the trip that you are interested in, send us an email at welcome@hikingthebalkans.com
BOOKING AND DEPOSIT
Once you choose your trip and we confirm availability, you can pay the deposit at the Hiking the Balkans bank account which we will provide in our confirmation email. A £150 deposit is required in order to secure your place. In the event you change your mind or are unable to travel, you can cancel your booking up to 6 weeks prior to departure and put your deposit towards any new bookings with us. A full payment is due 6 weeks prior to the trip. If you cancel the trip 6 weeks or less prior to the starting date, the deposit is non-refundable, and the remainder of the sum can be redirected to another one of our trips in future. No-show is non-refundable.
We will send you the final joining instructions 10-14 days before the trip starts.
RECOMMENDED FLIGHTS
All our recommended flights are direct from London to our destinations. We will not book your flights for you. The details of the recommended flights are published in the section Costs&Flights of each trip and you are responsible for booking your own flights once you receive our confirmation of availability.
If you want to fly from a different location in the UK or another country you need to find a flight that will ensure that you arrive to the starting destination of the trip you want to join prior to the arrival of our recommended flight.
For more details about the airlines we recommend please click on the dedicated button Recommended flights.
BOOK EARLY
We strongly advise that you book your trip as far in advance as possible. Our trips get full quickly and if you leave booking too late it may not be possible to obtain a seat on the recommended flight or the fare may be more expensive. If you leave booking too late we may not be able to secure permits for our cross border hikes and you may not be able to get your visas (if you require visa) on time.
PASSPORTS, VISAS AND HEALTH MATTERS
Medical vaccinations, passports and visas are entirely your responsibility and must be arranged prior to departure. We can take no responsibility for cancellation of your trip in the event that you are not allowed to fly, or continue your tour. If you are unable to travel due to not being able to obtain or not having the appropriate visa we reserve the right to retain the cost of the trip.
FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH OFFICE ADVICE
It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with FCO travel advice (www.fco.gov.uk) regarding the safety of the countries and areas we are visiting and make your decision accordingly.
We will do our best to inform clients of relevant changes to FCO Travel Advice but it is up to you as a customer to know what the current FCO travel advice is for a certain country and to be adequately insured to travel there. We will not normally cancel a trip simply because FCO advise against travel, so please consider the risks before making a booking.
OUR PRICES
The published prices are correct and valid for 2018. Prices are per person and are based on two persons sharing a twin room. Solo travellers are accepted for travel on the basis that they agree to share accommodation with another traveller of the same sex. Solo travellers may be provided with a single occupancy room at additional cost listed in the description of the trip under Costs&Flights. On some trips where we use mountain huts you may need to share a communal bedroom. This is clearly indicated in the description of the trip and by choosing the trip you agree to share a communal bedroom as specified in the trip description.
We believe in supporting the local communities and a part of that is paying a fair price for the services they provide. Hiking the Balkans has decided not to spend money on offices and we conduct all our business via our web site. We believe that paying our guides, partners and suppliers a fair price is very important, and this is reflected in our pricing system. We are also investing in training young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and areas affected by conflict to become our future mountain guides and hosts.
Prices can fluctuate depending on supplements, taxes, exchange rates and fuel costs.
